I have a 89 grand voyager. It is in excellent condition except that the vinyl surfaces inside like dashboard,?
I have a 89 Grand Voyager. It is in excellent condition except that the vinyl surfaces inside like dashboard, steering wheel, door, armrests etc. have become sticky to touch. I have tried cleaning with the regular household cleaners without any luck. Is there any product that will harden these surfaces? Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
sticky? gross. That would either indicate you have something sticky on the item, or you have used some kind of cleaner, protectant , or solvent has reacted with the vinyl and corroded/degraded it into goo.
OR, the guy who just sold it to you went to a car detailer and they wiped down all the surfaces with a protectant that ended up being sticky.
This seems likely if you’ve reported ALL the surfaces are sticky.
You should start with with wet/soapy terrycloth or microfiber towel, and the friction from the towel + the soap should clean the surface. If you are meticulous about choice of soap, use gentle soap like facial soap/ivory, woolite, or a dedicated leather cleaner (lexol leather cleaner).
If towel is not textured enough to produce enough friction/suds, also attack with a scrub brush or toothbrush.
If the hot soapy water doesn’t work, then you could attack it with something else. If it’s petroleum based, you can always try WD-40 (kerosene for all intents ). If it’s alcohol based, can try rubbing alcohol.
Test first and make sure it doesn’t do more damage or affect the color..
When you are done, wipe down those surfaces with a non-sticky vinyl protectant (i.e. avoid armorall).
